DIALOGUES WITH NATURE
A series of paintings on stretched canvas
ARTIST STATEMENT
What continually excites me about Nature is the order and chaos. Fundamentally, nature is cyclical and centered around life and death and carrying-on. Yet, the way Nature expresses itself is quite wild, tangled, layered and seemingly chaotic.
I am interested in the structure that holds things together and the freedom within it.
The freedom in my work is gestural, based on marks I make that are intuitive and expressive. I strive to create a structure that is meaningful and useful so that I can explore relationships of the parts and the whole. I find beauty and love when it all comes together.

“Enjoyed seeing the paintings of Suzanne Jacquot at the Fulton Crossing Gallery today. Her work is clear. The concept is "simple" and effective which makes its "story" easy to follow and engage. She makes spontaneous and free marks, chooses a color pallette with consciousness, always marking with an eye toward the eventual overall composition miraculously emerging somehow with a sense of space, a "place" so to speak, creating the modern sense of depth through implied color planes, and as soon as that "composition" emerges she stops knowing it is done and enough. You can follow its development easily and still be blown away by its mystery and accomplishment. Universal yet clearly a personal expression. Devoid of obsessiveness which could easily lead to clutter and lack of clarity. No easy grabs at the obvious figure or reference. It is "abstract" and Zen-like. Very much enhanced by what it is not. How does she do it? Deceptively child-like you would be mistaken to think the edge of apparent randomness is not under ultimatel control however barely. It is her own thing. I know it is not easy to do or there would be more paintings like this. She has the "eye" , blessed with a unique talent, and the work is inspirational and seemingly of a moment captured. You really need to see this work in person!”
